I’m not going to lie – I think the perfect burger needs a little pork belly in it. But whatever. I know this place is new, I understand that there are always kinks to work out when you first open a restaurant, so I don’t want to give off the wrong impression. Farm Burgers are made from 100% grass-fed beef – and I I like that they source beef that’s never fed antibiotics, hormones, or grain (even though I think grain-finished beef tastes better too). I like that their menu is seasonal and sourced from local farms, because we need these local farmers to stay in business if we want GMO-free produce and local meats.
So the place, it’s inviting, lots of cool colors, old wood and metal, about eight picnic tables and just simple in a good way. This place used to be Voila Market Cafe – I never ate there or heard anyone talk about it, but I do know it didn’t look attractive at all, so Farm Burger did a good job remodeling. The menu looks cool; whoever designed it made it simple and easy to understand while making it look good too. I also like that the to-go bags and cups have stamps of their logo all over them. I’ve seen this done before but I like it.
They have a fixed burger menu or you can build your own. The base price is six dollars, but the sides are where you got arugula, pimento cheese and bacon please, all at $2 a piece. So your $6 burger is now a $12 burger. I’m totally fine with this if it’s good, and it was. But I just had one complaint. You don’t get an option for the temperature on the burger, and I like that – they cook every burger with a warm pink center. Well, mine came out right but my buddy’s was well done, which sucks since we’re the type of customers that would never send anything back. He was happy with it and knew this place was still only three days old.
The dude behind the bar was a little too Ruby Tuesday for me, “hey guys what’s going on” in this really plastic muppet manner, “well if you guys aren’t familiar with grass-fed beef it’s where the cows only eat grass blah blah” shit. He insisted on us getting FB caramelized onion dip and chips, which tasted like Kroger. The spicy herb and garlic parmesan fries were a home run however. Good job on that one guys. I also hear the adult floats/beer floats are awesome, I will be back this week to try one. The beer selection is small but has everything from Bud heavy to Allagash.
Overall, on a one-to-ten it gets a seven, and being three days old, sounds good to me. I will definitely be back, the owner or manager (Mi I think is her name) was a sweetheart and totally cool, just really outgoing. So say hello when you go, she will make your dining experience that much better. Dear Farm Burger, thank you for coming to Decatur.
